iHealthtech Director Professor Lim Chwee Teck elected Fellow of the Royal Society

Professor Lim Chwee Teck, NUSS Professor and Director of the Institute for Health Innovation and Technology at the National University of Singapore (NUS), has been elected as a Fellow of The Royal Society (FRS). He is the first Singaporean to achieve this prestigious accolade, according to the current records of the Royal Society. There have been two other FRS members born in Singapore: Professor Chua Nam Hai and Sir Jeremy Farrar. Professor Lim is currently an elected Fellow of eight other academies and professional societies.

The Royal Society, the world’s oldest and most esteemed scientific academy in continuous existence, annually elects new Fellows and Foreign Members. These exceptional individuals are evaluated based on their groundbreaking and exceptional contributions to science.

Professor Lim joins an illustrious list of past Fellows that includes renowned figures such as Sir Isaac Newton, Charles Darwin, Albert Einstein, Winston Churchill, Stephen Hawking, Elon Musk, and over 280 Nobel Laureates. These Fellows have shaped scientific history through their discoveries and innovations.

Professor Lim’s groundbreaking work in mechanobiology and biomedical engineering has garnered global recognition. His innovative applications of engineering principles to address health challenges exemplify exceptional academic distinction. He is also known for promoting interdisciplinary collaboration and translating research into tangible outcomes, having co-founded six startups. He was recently awarded the Nature Lifetime Achievement Award for Mentoring in Science for providing outstanding mentorship to the next generation of scientists, researchers, and entrepreneurs.
