Developing novel coronavirus rapid detection kit

  • February 03, 2020

A team of researchers led by Asst Prof Shao Huilin has begun the development of a rapid novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) detection kit, based on the enVision technology platform which they invented in 2018.

Traditional PCR-based coronavirus detection kits take about a day to produce results. enVision uses enzyme-assisted nanocomplexes which only requires a very small amount of sample and can potentially produce results in only 30 minutes, enabling the medical community to make faster decisions in a rapidly changing situation.

Currently the team is conducting tests on synthetic samples and the next stage will be testing the kit with patient samples.
