Accelerating Targeted Cancer Care: NUS iHealthtech Innovation Shines at EMBS Winter Academy

  • January 21, 2026

Dr Gao Yuji, a Senior Research Fellow in Prof Lim Chwee Teck’s team, has advanced a precision oncology technique, MGeneCheck, that delivers lab-grade results of cancer mutation insights in under 20 minutes. The approach significantly reduces the professional manpower needed for assay execution and data processing, lowering diagnostic costs, while rapidly identifying cancer mutations to guide targeted treatment.

For this innovation, Dr Gao clinched third place at the Global MedTech Pitch Competition during the inaugural IEEE Engineering Medicine and Biology Society (EMBS) Winter Academy on January 13–17, 2026, in Davos. The highly competitive event featured 24 finalists selected from more than 100 submissions worldwide, each addressing unmet clinical challenges and healthcare needs.

Congratulations to Dr Gao, on this well-deserved recognition and the meaningful impact your work can bring to clinicians and patients!
